Make-up Misses

Now usually I spend my blog posts wittering on about the products that I adore.  I thought I would mix it up a little bit and take the time to write a little bit about the products in my collection that I don’t love.

Makeup Revolution Vivid Strobe Highlighter – Moon Glow Lights

Now we all know how much of a highlighter junkie I am,  so I have big hopes for anything glow related.  When I think of the word strobe, I think of a pretty intense beam.  However, this highlighter barely picks up any pigment, and reminds me more of an illuminating powder than anything else – which is what I’m going to try it as next.  But if you are on the search for a beaming highlight, this is not the one for you.

NYX Finishing Powder – Translucent

Aaaaaaaaaah.  This powder is probably one of the most disappointing products that I have ever tried.  I love a good translucent powder, and I had such high hopes for this one.  However, it gives the worst flashback that I have ever seen in my life, making it look in pictures like you haven’t bothered to wipe away the powder in the first place.  No matter how much I try to make this work, it just does not happen.

Nars Highlighting Blush – New Order

Now this product is described as a highlighting blush – which is what I expected it to be.  But this barely has any pigment whatsoever, it is mainly just sparkle with a tiny shade of pink.  Too much sparkle to be a blush, too little pigment to be a highlighter.  Alright for days where you want an extravagant sparkle on your cheeks, but for everyday wear this is definitely not one to go for.  Definitely would not repurchase.

Charlotte Tilbury K.I.S.S.I.N.G Lipstick – Bitch Perfect

I like this lipstick.  I honestly do.  However, for the price point of this lipstick I was a little disappointed.  Although I adore the colour, it rarely lasts longer than two hours on my mouth.  When you’re a busy girl like me, you do not have the time to be reapplying your lipstick 24/7.  So whilst I will continue to use this and like it, it will not be a lipstick that I will be repurchasing.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet Lipstick – Red-volution

IMG_3918.JPGEveryone was raving about this product, which is why I purchased it initially.  Now I’m not sure whether I got a dodgy one from the batch, but I am 100% not a fan of this product.  I find that it applies very patchy and doesn’t have a lot of pigment, meaning that I usually have to go over the top with a lipliner to even it out.  Definitely not worth the hassle.

Milani Conceal and Perfect 2 in 1 Foundation and Concealer – Creamy Vanilla

I was so wanting to love this product.  I was so hopeful when I purchased it on BeautyBay that it was going to be amazing, as so many people said that it was.  On the website, I picked the palest shade out as it looked like it would match my skin tone perfectly.  However, when it arrived I got a shock.  This is approximately 2-3 shades too dark for my skin tone, and it was the lightest in the range.  I have recently found that Milani have now released a lighter shade in their range but I am very dubious to try this on the basis that it will probably also be too dark.  Definitely one to be wary of if you’re a pale ghost like me.

Maybelline Fit Me! Concealer – 10 Light

Another shade issue.  Also the lightest shade in the collection, and also way too dark for my skin tone.  I find it impossible to use this concealer, on the grounds that it is way darker than any foundation that I own.  As a concealer lover, this one is so hyped about that I was desperate to try it.  Until they release a lighter shade, I can’t.  Very sad times.

So those are the products that particularly disappointed me.  It doesn’t happen very often, but it did on this occasion.  Here’s to just another excuse to try more makeup.

Lots of love,

Beth x
